On the first day for new teachers, Christina Steffner, the new superintendent of schools, presented her first “new teacher talk.” With about 50 new hires this summer, most are attending a four-day orientation that began on Monday, August 22. “I would say to you, that as a newcomer to this district this is an amazing opportunity, for you as well as for me,” Steffner said. The new staff members are taking part in classes on everything first-year teachers in Livingston need to know to be successful in the district, with workshops on challenging issues in education, including elements of effective instruction, academic demands, evaluations, laws surrounding special education, and a variety of policies.
