This week, the municipal courts heard a number of cases, including charges of a broken door at Cooperman Barnabas, disorderly conduct, and fraudulent checks.Criminal MischiefA Newark man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center on September 3. Marquise Granger, 30, kicked, pushed, and subsequently damaged a magnetic door. Damages totaled $2,532.08.When reviewed by the Essex county prosecutor, the charge was downgraded to a disorderly persons charge. Granger pled guilty and was assesseda $300 fine, plus $33 in court costs; $75 for the Safe Neighborhoods Fund; and $50 for the Victims of Crimes Compensation Organization( VCCO). Granger must also pay $2,532.08 to Saint Barnabas Health.Disorderly ConductAyres Cardoso, 44, from Blairstown, was a passenger in a single vehicle crash on Route 280 on December 16. As state troopers investigated, Cardoso began arguing with the officers. He was charged with disorderly conduct by being intoxicated and obstruction of administration of the law. The first charge was dismissed as part of a plea deal and the charge for obstruction was ammended to a township ordinance of creating a disturbance. He was fined$350plus$33incourt charges.Charged with TheftQuide Walters of Paterson was charged with theft for an incident that occurred on August 24. Walters, 33, worked as part of a moving team contracted to relocate a family’s possessions. While at the client’s house, Walters removed two rings from an armoire with a combined value of $9,700.This case was reviewed by the county prosecutor’s office and downgraded to a disorderly person charge. Walters pled guilty to downgraded theft and was fined $35 0 plus $33 in court costs; $75 for the Safe Neighborhoods Fund; and $50 for the VCCO.Fraudulent ChecksIrvington resident Wilnasaite Dolce, 32, faced four charges after allegedly attempting to cash fraudulent checks at TD Bank. The fraudulent checks totalled to $1,227.90. Dolce was charged with attempted forgery, the act of forging by using an altered check, resisting arrest, and possession of two stolen credit cards.The case was reviewed by the county prosecutor and the attempted forgery charge was downgraded to a disorderly person’s theft charge. The remaining three charges were downgraded to theft by deception.Dolce pled guilty and entered into a conditional dismissal program. His remaining charge will be dismissed if he remains out of trouble with the law for a full calendar year. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
