Mary C. (Santia) De Pola of Livingston died on August 28 at the age of 101. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover on Wednesday, September 3. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph; she is survived by two daughters, Rose Marie Sierchio and Viola Canfora; a son, John and his wife, Ann; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Aaron Chernus died in his Livingston home on August 31. Funeral services were held on September 3 at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston. Born in Newark, Mr. Chernus lived in Livingston for 50 years. After 15 years in the family business, Chain Curtain Stores, he became a real estate developer in New Jersey. A veteran of the Marines, Mr. Chernus participated for more than 20 years in both the New Jersey and National Senior Games, frequently earning medals. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet; a son, Jack and his wife, Jennifer; a daughter, Andrea; and three grandchildren.

Ann Helen (Travisano) Simonetti, 86, died in her Livingston home on August 28. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Philomena's Church, Livingston on September 3. Born in Newark, she attended West Side High School, where she was a member of the Chi Epsilon sorority. After high school, she was graduated from a secretarial course in 1946 and served as a secretary for the Prudential Company in Newark for 15 years. Mrs. Simonetti was a member of Prudential's Patrician Guild, an organization for Catholic women. She also worked as a volunteer at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark. Mrs. Simonetti is survived by her husband of 55 years, Vincent; two daughters, Marianne Simonetti and her husband, Joseph; and Lucille Perrone and her husband, Anthony; a son, Domenic and his wife, Rosemary; and four grandchildren. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.

Former Livingston resident Herbert Weber died on Wednesday, August 20, in Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He was 94 years old. Born in Newark, he lived in Livingston and then in Roseland before moving to Union. Mr. Weber, a certifi ed public accountant, was founding partner of the fi rm of Kurtz, Coleman & Weber. He played basketball while he was a student at the University of North Carolina. He was also a member of the AEPi fraternity and actively supported many of the university's activities. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Weber was instrumental in breaking the "Enigma" (Nazi Code) while stationed in London, England. Mr. Weber was predeceased by his wife, Leslie; his brother, Martin; and his sister, Helen. He is survived by his second wife, Irene; two daughters, including Dale and her husband, Frank, and Marsha; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, for Philip J. Loria of Landing, formerly of Livingston. Mr. Loria died August 23 at the age of 66. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Arrangementswere by the Farmer Funeral Home of Roseland; condolences and memories may be shared at www.farmerfuneral.com. Mr. Loria grew up in Livingston, then lived in Netcong for 17 years before settling in Landing in 2007. For more than 28 years, he was a butcher for Kings Supermarket in Morristown. He was a member of Local 464A, based in Little Falls. In his early years, he was a professional trainer and handler of Irish setters, competing in various dog shows and kennel clubs. Mr. Loria was pre-deceased by his mother, Doris Loria, and his brotherin- law, Ernest L. Viviani.

Mrs. Rivka Garkawe, 75, of Madison, died Friday, August 22, in Morristown Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements were by Bernheim- Apter-Kreitzman of Livingston. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Mrs. Garkawe had lived in Livingston before moving to Madison 28 years ago. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Garkawe was a realtor with Burgdoff Realtors in Livingston for many years. Mrs. Garkawe served as an officer in the Israeli Army. She was an active member of Temple Emanu-El and Hadassah, both in Livingston. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her son, David; her daughters, Sharon Anderson and Debbie Gilman; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 12 for Bertram Perlmutter, 77, who died August 9. Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Perlmutter lived in Livingston before retiring at the Wanaque Reserve. A graduate of Columbia University, he was a full-time pharmacist after serving two years in Germany with the US Army. For more than 30 years, Mr. Perlmutter owned and operated Park Pharmacy in Chatham. Predeceased by his wife, Judith and his daughter, Lynne Perlmutter Urquiola, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie of Los Angeles, California; his long-time girlfriend, Evelyn Blau of Wanaque; and four grandchildren.
