John C. Leeds

John C. Leeds, known as "Jack," died at the age of 83 on August 9 in Boyertown, Pennsylvania. Funeral services were private; however, online condolences may be made at www.lwottfuneralhome.com. Born and raised in Livingston, Mr. Leeds resided in Florham Park and Hyde Park, Vermont. He served as executive vice president and head of the Trust Department of First National Bank in New Jersey, which was eventually acquired by Wells Fargo. Mr. Leeds also served on the Board of Directors of Asbury Graphite in Delaware, the Mannheimer Foundation in Florida, the Newark Museum in New Jersey and the Vermont Studio Arts School in Vermont. A graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell and Upsala College in East Orange, he served in the US Navy and was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia during the Korean War. Predeceased by his daughter, Michele A. Romano in 2000, Mr. Leeds is survived by his wife, Marie; his children, Bonnie A.

Phyllis Foley

A memorial service for Phyllis arbara (Applegate) Foley, 91, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, at the Chapel of Bristol Glen in Newton. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mrs. Foley died at the Harris Health Care Center at Bristol Glen on August 12. Born in Orange, she was raised in Montclair and moved to Livingston in 1947. She had been a resident of Newton since 2007. Mrs. Foley, a graduate of Montclair High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, stationed at Brooklyn Naval Hospital as a pharmacist mate 2nd class in 1943 and 1944. Prior to her retirement in 1986, Mrs. Foley was a school secretary at Harrisonand Hillside Schools in Livingston for 24 years. She was a member of the Livingston Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as a deacon for many years. At Bristol Glen, she served on the Spiritual Life Committee and was an active member of the Veterans Group at Bristol Glen.

Julia Guarino

A Funeral Mass for Julia R. Guarino was held yesterday, Wednesday, in St. Peter's Church, Belleville. Mrs. Guarino died August 16 in West Orange. Born in Newark in 1921, she was a longtime resident of Belleville before moving to Livingston in 2005. She had been employed at Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley. Pre-deceased by her husband, Peter, Mrs. Guarino is survived by her children, Julia R. Cullen and her husband, Joseph; and Father Thomas G. Guarino; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ 07079.

Alice K. Hegarty

Alice K. (Kolberg) Hegarty of Newton, a former Livingston resident, died Thursday, August 14, at the Bristol Glen Assisted Living facility. She was 85 years old. A liturgy of Christian Burial was offered for her on Monday, August 18, at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Cedar Knolls. A homemaker, Mrs. Hegarty was born and raised in East Orange. She also lived in Newark, Livingston, Randolph, Whippany, and Andover before moving to Newton in 2012. She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Hegarty, in 1989; her son, Thomas J., in 1962; and her daughter, Mary Ann, in 1978. She is survived by her sons, Robert P. and his wife, Cathy; Michael E. and his wife, Susan; William F. III and his wife, Lynda; James F.; Kenneth J. and his wife, Linda; and Stephen P. and his wife, Wendy; her daughters, Bette J. Hegarty; Kathleen M. Harju and her husband, Jaak; Maureen C. Hagen and her husband, Glenn; Alice E. Juliano and her husband, Mark; and Susan M.

Alexander Chevion Dies in Illinois

Alexander Chevion of Lincolnshire, Illinois, formerly a 48 year resident of Livingston, died Thursday, August 7, at the Radford Green Nursing Home in Lincolnshire. He was 90 years old. A graveside service was held in Clifton, on Sunday, August 10. Mr. Chevion who came to the United States from Israel in 1953, was an engineer with Exxon Research and Engineering in Florham Park. Predeceased by his son, Daniel, he is survived by his wife, Paula, of Lincolnshire; his daughter, Debbie (Chevion) Muller, and her husband, John, of Deerfi eld, Illinois; and two granddaughters.

Scott Harp Succumbs At Home in Pennsylvania

The Tribune has received word that former town manager Robert Harp's son, Scott, died of an apparent heart attack over the weekend in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Mr. Harp, who was a few days short of his 61st birthday, was a 1971 graduate of Livingston High School. Further obituary information will be published as soon as it is available.

Offer Mass Today For John Goodwin

A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of John Hamilton Goodwin, 80, who died at his Livingston home, will be offered at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston, today, Thursday at 10 a.m. Mr. Goodwin was born in Newark and had lived in West Orange before moving to Livingston in 1964. He served his country as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired as an electrician for Local #164 of the I.B.E.W. after many years. Surviving Mr. Goodwin is his wife, Constance; his children, Christine Goodwin, John H. II and his wife Jodie; and his sister, Susan Debbie Solomon. Flowers are welcome or donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 will be appreciated.
