Conklin Nets 100th Head Coach Career Win As Lancers Defeat Millburn in Quarterfi nals

The Livingston High School hockey team shut out the Millburn Millers, 2-0, in the McInnis Cup Quarterfi nals on Saturday, February 14 at the Codey Arena in West Orange. The victory also marked a milestone for Dave Conklin, who recorded his one-hundredth win as a high school head coach in his eighth season with the Lancers. The game was held at a scoreless tie in the fi rst period, and the teams played evenly and physically in the first 15 minutes of the game. Both teams had a few scoring chances, but neither was able to capitalize on their opportunities.

Youth Practices Table Tennis Every Day; Dreams of Representing U.S. in Olympics

His favorite composer is Mozart and he sings with the Select Chorus at Heritage Middle School. He enjoys sketching and has taken GT (gifted and talented) art classes. He was a serious swimmer at age six. He likes basketball and soccer and is fluent in Chinese. He is also a "nice guy" who likes to help kids, whether or not they speak English or are just beginning to play table tennis. He wants to be a lawyer, to help other people. Jack Wang, an eighth grader, became a 2015 U.S. National Junior and Cadet Boys Team member in December and is working hard to represent the U.S. in international table tennis tournaments this year. His dream is to play in the Olympics.

INTERGENERATIONAL PROM IS COMING: The Livingston High School (LHS) Key Club will once again welcome Livingston's senior citizens to the Intergenerational Prom. This year's event is planned for Wednesday, April 15. The prom will feature dinner, dancing, the LHS jazz band and photographs. The Intergenerational Prom was fi rst held 27 years ago when organizers planned a dinner-dance to create a learning experience that would allow students and seniors to socialize and get to know one another. Tickets will be available at the community center on Hillside Avenue beginning on March 2. Shown are LHS Key Club members Meghan Nevola, Trever Wood, Melinda Hu, Rebecca Lin and adviser, Giovanna Riggi.

The Livingston Lancer varsity hockey team lost to the Middletown North High School Lions, 6-1, and to the Nutley Raiders, 2-0, on Senior Night at home at Codey Arena on Wednesday, January 28, and Saturday, January 31, respectively.

Girls' Basketball Team Defeats Cedar Grove in Essex County Tourney

The Lady Lancers varsity basketball team ran its record to 11-5 last week when the team split two games in the Essex County tournament. The girls defeated Cedar Grove and lost on the road to #2-ranked Montclair High School.

Lancer Ice Hockey Team Defeats Montclair To Take Over First Place in Conference

The Livingston Lancer varsity ice hockey team defeated the Montclair Mounties, 3-2, at home at Codey Arena on Friday, January 23. This win put the Lancers at 9-2-1 in the Super Essex County Conference and above 500 for the first time since the beginning of the season; a feat which head coach Dave Conklin said “means a lot… We have a very difficult non-league schedule. We are playing the best teams in the state. We have been working hard and it’s starting to pay off with some wins, which feels good.”

Girls' Basketball Team Splits Two; Now at 8-3

Last week, the Lady Lancer varsity basketball team split two games on the road, defeating Verona, 44–29, and losing to Millburn, 53–44. In a key conference match-up against Verona, the Lancers showed a tenacious defense that held Verona to 21 points after three quarters.
