A series of vehicle-related thefts were among the crimes that occurred over the past week in town, according to Livingston Police.

Stolen SUV

At 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, Livingston officers responded to an Edgemere Road home on a report of a stolen motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers were met by a man who said that his 2019 Volvo SUV was stolen from the roadway as he ran inside to drop something off at a friend’s house.

The vehicle had been left unlocked and running. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating the matter.

Catalytic Converter Thefts Earlier last week, Livingston Police responded to multiple reports of stolen catalytic converters.

At 4:39 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, officers responded to a Gorham Avenue home on a report of a stolen converter. Upon arrival, officers were met by the victim, who said that when they started their 2001 Honda Accord, they heard a loud exhaust noise. They then noticed that the catalytic converter was cut out from under the vehicle sometime over the past few days.

The next day, at 10:06 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, officers responded to a Millstone Drive home on a report of another stolen converter. Upon arrival, officers were met by the victim, who said that when they started their 2002 Honda Accord, they also heard a loud exhaust noise. They, too, then noticed that the catalytic converter had been cut out from under the vehicle.

The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating both incidents.

Shoplifting

In an unrelated incident, a woman was arrested for shoplifting last week.

At 6:57 p.m. on Friday, March 31, Livingston officers responded to the Macy’s department store at the Livingston Mall for a report of a shoplifter in custody.

Upon arrival, officers found that Macy’s loss prevention employees had Hazel Anderson, 58, of East Orange, detained for shoplifting.

Anderson had allegedly concealed over $300 in merchandise and left the store without paying, according to police.

Anderson was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where she was charged with shoplifting and released
