Joseph W. Zahn Jr. of Hackettstown, New Jersey, passed away on January 1, 2023, at age 89.
Joseph was born in Montclair, New Jersey, onApril 16, 1933, and grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1951 and earned a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955.
From 1955 to 1958, Joseph served in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge, he joined his father at Zahn Real Estate and Insurance Agency and married Emma (Jarrell) Zahn in November 1959.
Joseph was an active member of Livingston Elks’ Lodge 1855, where he served as exalted ruler. He served as President of the Livingston Rotary Club twice and received the Rotary Paul Harris Award. He was also a member of the Board of Realtors of the Oranges and Maplewood and served as President from 1983 to 1984.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emma; a son, Jeffrey and his wife, Brenda; and a daughter, Karen Steinert and her husband, Walter. He was predeceased by his son, Gregory Zahn. He is also survived by his six beloved grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, in Livingston, New Jersey, on Saturday, January 14, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will be private.
