Police Perform Active Shooter Training in Schools

Livingston Police ovcers performed school safety training at Heritage Middle School last week, April 3 through 7, while students and faculty were ou for spring break.

"This was intentionally done while students were on spring break to better enable our ovcers complete access to one of our township schools," Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz said. The instructors were members of the department's Emergency Services Unit. They put ovcers through multiple scenarios, some of which were based on actual incidents that have occurred in other states. The training was as realistic as possible, with multiple role-players taking part, according to Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz.

"In the current environment we are in, this training is vital to keeping our students and faculty safe," Chief Marshuetz said. "I am both proud and humbled with the euectiveness of our instructors and how the training is received by our ovcers. We will continue to challenge our ovcers with new and ever changing training. I cannot thank our instructors enough for their willingness to accept this responsibility. We must remain vigilant against the unthinkable and be ready to face any challenge presented to us." Chief Marshuetz also thanked the Livingston Public Schools Board of Education for allowing ovcers to train within the schools. "All of this cannot be accomplished without the consent of the Board of Education," Chief Marshuetz said.

"We are especially grateful to our Board of Education partners, in particular Superintendent Matthew Block, for granting us access into their facility and allowing us to train."
