At the National History Bee New Jersey spring regional finals on Saturday, April 15, at Ridgewood High School, Heritage Middle School seventh grader Hadrian Zheng won first place.
Hubert Zheng, also a seventh grader in HMS and Hadrian’s twin brother, finished in fourth place. Both qualified for the National Middle School History Bee Championships that will take place in early June in Arlington, Virginia. Their top placements also qualified them for the International History Olympiad that will take place in late July in Rome, Italy.
“This is my second History Bee tournament,” Hadrian Zheng said, “but I’ve been to many competitions as I’m in Team A of HMS Quiz Bowl teams, so I know how it goes.”
Hubert Zheng is in HMS Quiz Bowl Team B. Earlier this year, both teams qualified for the National Middle School Quiz Bowl Championship, which will take place next month in Chicago, Illinois.
For History Bee, Hadrian and Hubert Zheng are coached by Livingston High School tenth grader Robert Wang, who won the National History Bee Junior Varsity championship last year. The National History Bee (for individuals) is one of the academic competitions administered by the International Academic Competitions (IAC) organization. Most competitions are offered across elementary school, middle school, as well as high school junior varsity and varsity levels.
