The Livingston Board of Education, at its meeting Tuesday evening, April 18, announced appointments, resignations, and retirements.
Annual Appointment
In a “housekeeping” action, the Board appointed Dora Zeno to the following school district positions for the 2022-23 school year: custodian of records; OPRA (Open Public Records Act) representative; public agency compliance officer (PACO); qualified purchasing agent; and treasurer.
Retirements and Resignations The Board approved two retirements and five resignations.
Thomas Douglas, manger of technology at Collins School, will retire as of June 30, as will Tracy Rosenberg, teacher of health and physical education at Livingston High School.
“It is always wonderful the things that Tom does that we all see on a daily basis,” Mark Stern, assistant superintendent of Livingston Public Schools, said. “But what’s more impressive, is the things that we don’t see that Tom does to keep us running and moving forward.”
Mt. Pleasant Elementary School playground aide Arinn Shulman resigned as of March 22.
Resigning as of June 30 will be elementary school teachers Maureen Tavis, at Collins School, and Jade Eden at Hillside. LHS business teacher Raymond Snyder and Harrison School psychologist Erin Rooney will also resign as of June 30.
New Appointments
The school board also approved the following new appointments.
Julianna Koetter will be an elementary school teacher at Riker Hill School, effective August 30. She will replace David Arensburg.
Veronica Terana will teach Italian at Livingston High School, replacing Renata Cirelli. Her appointment is effective August 30.
At Hillside School, Molly Gribbon will be an elementary school teacher effective August 30, replacing Jade Eden. In addition, reading intervention specialist Kristin Mahoney will temporarily replace Pia Bauer, who will be on leave from August 30 through January 8, 2024.
Danielle Maxwell will replace Mary Kate O’Brien as Heritage Middle School counselor as of May 30.
At Collins School, Lancer Johnson will replace Thomas Douglas as manager of technology, effective May 30; Eduardo Lara will replace Jonathan Pfeiffer as network administrator, effective May 30; JesseAllard has replaced Brendan Bloom as systems administrator as ofApril 3; and Eileen Villar will take over payroll/benefits from J. Reilly as of June 1.
Peter Sbarro will replace Philip Johnson in maintenance in the district’s Buildings and Grounds department.
LHS Unsung Hero
Essex County School Boards Association named student Nikki Heifler the unsung hero of Livingston High School. A video montage of Heifler and her volunteer efforts were shown in recognition of her community contributions.
Calendar
Livingston Public Schools has one unused snow day, which will subsequently make Friday, May 26, a day off for students and staff.
New Business
Board member Parul Khemka suggested that the administration considers adding a financial literacy program starting at the elementary level. The program, FiWe, she said, is used throughout New York City schools. She also recommended using ClassTag, a communication tool designed for students and teachers.
