Elayne “Lyn” Ruth Charney, passed away peacefully on April 14 at age 87.

Aresident of Livingston for over 60 years until her passing, she was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and her family moved to Bloomfield when she was age seven. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and attended Newark Teachers College.

While living in Bloomfield she met her husband of 67 years, Marvin Charney, and they remained happily married in a close and caring relationship.

She served on the Board and as treasurer of both the Women’s Club of Temple Emanuel of Livingston and the National Council of Jewish Women, and volunteered with the Livingston National Little League Women’s Auxiliary and the Harrison School PTA.

As her children began their university studies, Lyn embarked on a professional career. Initially, she worked as a bookkeeper with a small accounting practice in town and was ultimately promoted to accounting manager at the law firm Grotta, Glassman and Hoffman, in Roseland, where she worked for 15 years until her retirement.

Bright, joyful, compassionate, supportive, and generous, Lyn was deeply committed to her family. She is survived by her husband, Marvin; their two children, Debra Weitzman (nèe Charney), son Steven Charney; son-in-law, Kenneth Weitzman; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Charney (nèe Sharnak), all of whom are Livingston residents. She is also survived by five adoring and adored grandchildren, Karli Weitzman, Ross Charney, Eric Weitzman, Cole Charney, and Todd Weitzman.

A burial service was held on April 16 at Riverside Cemetery in Saddlebrook. The family suggests that memories and expressions of sympathy be shared through www. berheimapterkreitzman.com.
