A car fire was reported in the eastbound lanes between exits 5, for North Livingston Avenue, and exit 6, for Laurel Avenue. Tree into Wires
On Sunday, May 7, fire officials went to 45 Concord Drive, where it was reported that a tree branch had fallen into electrical wires. They found three primary electric wires and several secondary wires down in the roadway. Livingston Police had
responded to the site as well, and they and members of the Livingston Fire Department secured the scene until Public Service Electric and Gas could make repairs.
Carbon Monoxide
The Fire Department also had two carbon monoxide (CO) calls this past week. A CO alarm on Friday, May 5, at 20 Stoneham Drive was activated, but responding fire officials checked the home and no readings registered on the Department’s CO meter.
A CO alarm brought fire officials to 6 Village Drive on Sunday, May 7. The Department’s meter registered a reading of 100 parts per million in the home’s basement. They traced the high readings to a generator running near a broken window. The residence was vented, and the Fire Department’s industrial fan was placed into service.
Gas Service Pulled
Firefighters went to 28 Fawn Drive on Monday, May 8, after a contractor doing road reconstruction work there inadvertently pulled gas service for the home.
Elevator Call
That same day, fire officials went to 1100 Town Center Way on a report of an elevator entrapment. However, all elevators were checked and no problem was found.
False Alarms
The Fire Department’s other calls this past week were false alarms.
Steam form a shower set off a fire alarm at 18 Kearney Terrace on Wednesday, May 3. A call to 43 Shrewsbury Drive on Thursday, May 4, was cancelled prior to firefighters’ arrival. That same day, a fire alarm at the Mt. Pleasant School complex was traced to an electrical issue in the stage room. Electricity was shut off, and the system was reset.
Water in an electric panel was the cause of a false fire alarm at 168 East Cedar Street on Saturday, May 6. The panel was disconnected, and personnel from the sprinkler and alarm companies were to check the system. In addition, cooking set off a false alarm at 18 Thurston Drive.
On Monday, May 8, a fire alarm transmission at 16 Cypress Lane was activated by ongoing construction in the residence.
