Jared Zornitzer Runs 50 Mile Marathon; Now Training for Upcoming 100 Mile Race

Jared Zornitzer, a 2020 graduate of Livingston High School and currently a senior studying mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic University, successfully ran a 50 mile “Ultra Marathon.” The race, which nearly doubles the typical 26.2 mile marathon distance, took place in New Paltz, New York, across rigorous terrain in the Shawangunk Mountains. He completed the grueling race in ten hours and 21 minutes, placing 62nd out of 225 other participants.

Zornitzer is currently training to complete a 100 mile Ultra Marathon as well as a variety of other local marathons over the coming months. Additionally, in March 2025, he will be venturing out to backpack the Appalachian Trail, which runs 2,194 miles along the East Coast from Georgia to Maine. He expects this challenge to take six months, and anticipates “the pleasures of living naturally off of the earth’s elements,” while physically pushing himself to “limits very few experience in a lifetime.”

Jared is the son of Nicole Zornitzer and Matthew and Karen Zornitzer and the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Zornitzer, who have been residents of Livingston for over 40 years. His sister, Larissa Zornitzer, is currently a senior at Livingston High School and his brother, Zachary Zornitzer, will be entering kindergarten in Livingston this fall.
