LHS Assistant Principal Resigns; Eight Teachers to Begin Next Year

Members of the Board of Education accepted three retirements and 15 resignations during its Monday, May 15, meeting, including the resignation of Livingston High School assistant principal, Yulee Chuy. The Board appointed Chuy in June of last year. Her final day of employment is scheduled for June 30.
LHS Assistant Principal Resigns; Eight Teachers to Begin Next Year

Members of the Board of Education accepted three retirements and 15 resignations during its Monday, May 15, meeting, including the resignation of Livingston High School assistant principal, Yulee Chuy. The Board appointed Chuy in June of last year. Her final day of employment is scheduled for June 30.

Others resigning include: Mt. Pleasant Middle School social worker, Joshua Weiss; Collins interim assistant behavior analysis, Lindita Agastra; Riker Hill teacher, Allison Backer; Mt. Pleasant Elementary teachers of students with disabilities, Sarah Robey; Livingston High School social studies teacher, Nicole Cicchino; and instructional aides, Lisa Dascoli at Heritage Middle School, Joanna Lin at Harrison, and Francesca LaPolia at Burnet Hill.

Their last day of employment is June 30.

Five job coaches at Livingston High School are resigning from their positions, as well, effective May 31: Kimberly Hughes, Terri Ciecierski, Paul Steiner, Marci Rosenstark, and Daniela Brando.

Bus driverAndre Starnes is resigning effective May 25.

Retirements

Livingston High School science teacher Ruth Rosenman, bus driver Angelo Lekkas, and bus aide Konstantina Lekkas are retiring. Their last day of employment is June 30.

Leaves of Absences

Eight staff and faculty members are taking leaves of absence. Intervention/ enrichment specialist Sara Kiene at Harrison will leave October 2 and return August 30, 2024. Basic skills reading instructor at Mt. Pleasant Middle School Melissa Serrani will leave June 8 and return February 12, 2024.

Health and physical education teachers Kelly Nann, Livingston High School, and Patrick Nann, Heritage Middle School, will be taking leaves of absence. Kelly will leave August 30 and return January 2, 2024. Patrick will leave September 4 and return November 27.

Livingston High School psychologist Christina Piccirillo will leave August 30 and return January 2, 2024. Mt. Pleasant Elementary psychologist Nicole DiStefano will leave September 25 and return February 12, 2024.

Livingston High School art teacher Deniz Schwartz will leave September 5 and return August 30, 2024.

Harrison teacher Michele Green will return from leave on August 30.

Appointments

Eight teachers will begin employment on August 30. Art teachers Jenny Ofstroff and Anne Terkovich will teach at Livingston High School and Harrison, respectively.

Jodi Shalom and Isabella Gardner, teachers of students with disabilities, will each begin at Harrison and Mt. Pleasant Elementary.

Lexie Calvert will begin teaching at Collins, and Spanish teacher Axel Marrero will work at Hillside. Jonathan Lee will be teaching business education at Livingston High School.

IT support specialists Christopher Djurn and Gary Schwerzler will begin work this year, too. Djurn will work at Mt. Pleasant Middle School starting July 1, and Schwerzler will work at Livingston High School starting May 31.

Bus driver Maria Reed will begin work on August 30.

Mark Faber will continue as a district consulting psychiatrist through June 30.

Linda Kleban, Lisa Quinlan, and Roger Berg were approved to serve as substitutes on an as-needed basis for the remaining school year.

A number of certified staff, security, support, supervisors, certified administrators, and non-certified school nurses were reappointed for the next academic year.

Governor Awards

Teachers throughout the district were honored by administrators and faculty for their work. The Governor’s Educator of the Year ceremony was held inside the Livingston High School auditorium on Monday.

“Livingston Public Schools is very fortunate to have wonderful, wonderful professionals working with our students every day in each of our schools in each of our departments in every capacity,” superintendent Matthew Block said.
