Boys’ Track Team Places Second At Essex County Championships

The Livingston High School boys’ track and field team placed second at the Essex County Championships behind Seton Hall Prep on Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19, at Newark Schools Stadium. The boys competed against 36 other teams, and amassed 59 points, scoring in the sprints, hurdles, distance, throws, and jumps.

The Livingston High School boys’ track and field team placed second at the Essex County Championships behind Seton Hall Prep on Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19, at Newark Schools Stadium. The boys competed against 36 other teams, and amassed 59 points, scoring in the sprints, hurdles, distance, throws, and jumps.

The top six finishers in the two-day meet in the different events included: co-captain Matt Ho, who was fourth in the 110 high hurdles, fourth in the 400 intermediate hurdles and second in the pole vault; co-captain Luke Petryna, who was third in both the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes; Chase Kaufman, who placed third in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100-meter dash; Ray Oji, who was third in the 110 high hurdles; Chase Spiegler, who placed third in the Javelin; Nick Siao, who took third in the pole vault; Ricky Romero, who was sixth in the 1,600-meter run; Chase Wade, who placed sixth in the 400-meter dash; and Will Sun, who placed sixth in long jump.

The 4x4 squad of Petryna, Oji, Ethan Wang, and anchored by Wade placed second in a finish that also led to a new school record of 3:23.03. The squad is now ranked overall 15th in the state of New Jersey.

Next up for the team is the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 state tournament that will be held at Clifton High School on Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3.
