LPD Detectives Investigating Residential Burglaries, Stolen Vehicles

Livingston Police officers investigated several reports of residential burglaries and stolen vehicles over the past week.

Residential Burglaries

At 5:02 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, officers responded to a Rumson Road home on a report of a burglary to the residence and a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, officers were met by the homeowner, who was awoken by the dogs barking and then located a rear unlocked window that was open. Keys to a 2018 Audi Q5 were also missing and the vehicle was discovered to be stolen. The vehicle was recovered a short time later in Hillside.

Later that evening, at 10:17 p.m., officers responded to aFordhamRoad residence on a report of a burglar alarm going off at the residence. Upon arrival, officers found the front door aj ar and forced open, with the interior alarm panel ripped off the wall. The rest of the house was checked and nothing was missing or disturbed.

Stolen Vehicle

At 6:09 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, officers responded to a Glendale Avenue residence on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers were met by the victim, who advised that sometime in the overnight hours, a 2019 Mercedes S560 was stolen from the driveway. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside.

Attempted Burglaries

Four attempted burglaries were reported last week in town.

At 4:36 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, officers responded to a Longview Road residence on a report of a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers were met by the homeowner, who said that a nanny awoke to the suspect attempting to make forced entry through a window. The person was then scared off by the nanny. It is believed they were attempting to steal key fobs for the homeowner’s vehicles.

At 1:51 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, officers responded to a Ross Road home on a report of three suspects in the rear yard of the residence. Upon arrival officers were met by the homeowner, who said that he had viewed the three individuals in his rear yard attempting to gain access to his home. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle, where it was pursued out of town at which point the pursuit was broken off. It is believed they were attempting to steal key fobs for the homeowner’s vehicles.

At 5:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, officers responded to a Fellswood Drive home on a report of a person attempting to get into the residence. Upon arrival, officers were met by the homeowner, who advised them he awoke to a noise in his kitchen and upon investigating he found several windows had been forced open. The suspect or suspects did not make entry into the home, and it is believed they were attempting to steal key fobs for the homeowner’s vehicles.

At 3:45 a.m. on Monday, May 29, officers responded to an East Sherbrooke Parkway home on a report of two suspects who attempted to gain access to the residence. Upon arrival, officers were met by the homeowner, who advised that he was awoken by his barking dog. Upon review of his surveillance cameras, police found that two individuals had opened his front door, but were scared off by the barking dog. It is believed they were attempting to steal key fobs for the homeowner’s vehicles.

Attempted Vehicle Theft

At 9:38 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, officers responded to a Fordham Road home on a report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. Upon arrival, officers were met by a neighbor, who advised that he witnessed the suspect or suspects jump into the homeowner’s 2020 Mercedes and attempt to steal the vehicle. They were unsuccessful, as the vehicle's key fob was not left inside the vehicle. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating all of these cases.
