Welcome to the Tribune

Welcome to the Tribune

While the West Essex Tribune’s regular readership will not notice many changes to this week’s issue, some are picking up our paper for the first time. This week’s edition is a TMC (Total Market Coverage) issue, the second of four newspapers this year that we will send to every home in Livingston.

We, who make the Tribune, are so proud to work and live in a town that values community reporting, and we do our best to be an essential part of your weekly media diet. While there are many other places to get news on a state and national level, no other newspaper exclusively covers Livingston. We attend and report on the Town Council, Board of Education, and Planning and Zoning Board meetings, highlight local residents, and provide updates on what is happening in our schools. We make sure no appointment, resolution, or budget goes unchecked. We keep up with our athletes, celebrate your accomplishments, and publish your letters.

We are sincerely grateful that you are taking the time to thumb through this paper. We work very hard to deliver Livingston’s news to you, and we hope it shows.

And, as a side note to our regular readers, we hope you are as thrilled as we at the Tribune are that our regular printing press has been repaired and we have returned to our normal sized papers. It has been a challenging couple of months dealing with the narrower pages and all the adjustments we had to make. We thank you all for your patience during that time.

Graduation Time

College graduation announcements are starting to come in and the Tribune staff has received inquiries from parents about how they can share their good news with their neighbors.

While we believe it is our job to educate our readers as to official happenings in the community, the Tribune is also here to publicize family milestones such as births, deaths, weddings, religious celebrations and other important personal achievements. As a result, we are happy to publish the news of a graduation in your family – at no charge. Information may be emailed to [email protected].

Many (but not all) colleges send brief announcements that a student has earned a degree; however, they often provide no information beyond the student’s name and the name of the university. Sometimes they do not even include what degree the student received. Family members may submit comprehensive information about the graduate, including parents’ names, the year and high school from which the student was previously graduated, degree/major/minor, any accomplishments or honors, and plans for the future. A photograph of the graduate may also be submitted.

In return, we ask for your patience. We know that everyone is anxious to share their good news; however, with hundreds of graduates each spring, we cannot always get the article into the newspaper as quickly as you – and we – would like. It may take a week or even a few weeks, so just keep your eye on the paper until you see it!

The Tribune staff congratulates all of Livingston’s graduates, whether they are finishing high school, college or postgraduate programs. We look forward to hearing about each and every one.

Summerfest

This Sunday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Summerfest will return to the Oval. The event is a welcome continuation of Livingston’s long list of great warm weather events, from the recent Memorial Day parade and Pride picnic, to the upcoming Fourth of July festivities. All of these events draw in large, enthusiastic crowds.

With Summerfest, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the activities, grab something to eat from the food trucks, enjoy a drink from the beer garden if you are over 21, listen to some live music, and enjoy the (hopefully) nice weather to welcome the (nearly official) start of summer.

Summerfest is a fun event that is sponsored by Livingston’s Rotary Club, a group of volunteers who support our community. The funds raised through the event will allow the Rotary to continue the service organization’s good work. We hope to see plenty of familiar faces this weekend, having a great time for a great cause.
