Unlocked Mercedes is Stolen; Additional Break-Ins Reported

Stolen Vehicle

At 3:04 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, officers responded to Demarest Road on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2015 Kia that was running and unoccupied. The vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen out of Woodbridge.

An investigation led to the discovery that a 2016 Mercedes-Benz was stolen a short distance away from a Pitcairn Road residence. That vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside the vehicle. The Mercedes was recovered in Irvington the next day.

The Livingston Detective bureau is investigating the matter.

Vehicle Break-ins At 11:57 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, officers responded to the Livingston Mall on a report of a vehicle break-in.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, who said that his Ford Econo Van was parked in Lot #4 of the mall. The passenger side window was smashed and two wallets and an iPhone were stolen.

While officers were on scene, another victim was located. The second victim had his work truck entered, and several wallets were stolen. The vehicle had been left unlocked.

The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating the matter.

Attempted Break-ins At 12:27p.m. on Thursday, June 1, officers responded to the Livingston Mall on a report of several juveniles who were allegedly shoplifting inside Macy’s and then pulling on door handles of numerous vehicles in the parking lot.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspects at the bus stop. An investigation led to the arrest of three juvenile 16-year-old Irvington boys for receiving stolen property and attempting to break into the vehicles.

In an unrelated shoplifting incident at Macy’s two days later, at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, officers responded to a report of a shoplifter in the custody of loss prevention employees.

Upon arrival, officers were informed that one of the suspects had fled the scene and the other, Charnasha Clemons, 23, of Syracuse, New York, was in custody.

Clemons had allegedly concealed over $1,500 in merchandise and left the store without paying. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was charged with shoplifting and released on a summons.

Commercial Burglary

At 2:03 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, officers responded to a burglar alarm from the North Hills Exxon on West Northfield Road.

Upon arrival, officers found the front door to the station had been forced open. The suspects did not take anything from inside the station, police said.

The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating the matter.
