The Livingston Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a home burglary targeting a high end motor vehicle.
In the early morning hours of Friday, June 9, the Livingston Police Department was alerted to a burglary at a Livingston residence and the theft of a Cadillac Escalade. The homeowner’s alarm system was triggered after the suspects forcibly entered the home on Camelot Drive, stole the key fob and a purse, and ultimately stole the Escalade, which was parked in the garage.
“Through coordination by the Livingston Police patrol units, police officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle driving eastbound on South Orange Avenue,” Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz said. “The vehicle took off from the officers and a pursuit was initiated. Officers pursued the vehicle down South Orange Avenue into South Orange, where the stolen vehicle became disabled after striking a curb.”
The suspects then bailed out of the stolen vehicle and a foot pursuit ensued, police said. Two of the suspects were apprehended by Livingston Police officers, who were assisted by the Millbum Police. The two juvenile boys, a 17-year-old from Irvington anda 14-year-oldfromNewark,were placed under arrest and transported back to police headquarters. Both were charged with burglary to a residence, theft, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit burglary to a residence, and possession of burglary tools. Both juveniles were remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility. Later that same evening, one of the suspects was released from custody.
“These two suspects have already been linked to other burglaries and auto thefts throughout New Jersey,” Chief Marshuetz said. “The Livingston Detective Bureau is continuing its investigations of the incident of June 9, as well as any connections with other criminal activity throughout the state.”
Chief Marshuetz concluded, “I am proud of the coordination among the various divisions at the LPD in the apprehension and arrest of these suspects. All LPD divisions contributed to this arrest and investigation from dispatch, to patrol officers and their supervisors, the Detective Bureau, and even assistance from the Millbum Police. This arrest was a complete group effort, and I am grateful for the professionalism demonstrated by this department.”
