John Stanley Russell of Saline, Michigan, died at the age of 81.
Mr. Russell grew up in Livingston, graduating from Livingston High School where he was a track and cross-country competitor.
Mr. Russell began his career as a teacher at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He then earned his graduate degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, going on to pursue his post-graduate degree from the University of Michigan, working towards his doctorate in biology and environmental studies.
He leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Howard Schweizer of Denville; sister, Judi Cosgrove of Denville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Katherine and Jack Russell.
The family suggests making donations to the Sierra Club, the National Parks Foundation, or to any other related charity in his name.
