Livingston’s Board of Education approved several personnel changes during its Tuesday, June 20, meeting. These include the appointment of Board student representative Jake Ferrans, and Laura DeNicola, Livingston High School’s new assistant principal.
DeNicola will replace Yulee Chuy, whose resignation was approved by the Board on Monday, May 15. DeNicola will begin employment on July 1.
Resignations
Board members accepted six resignations, as well: Riker Hill and Collins music teacher Jill DeBlasse; Livingston High School social studies teacher Helene McNanna, English teacher AndrewNelson, and instructional aide Laura Hickey; Heritage Middle School behaviorist Jennifer Alvich; and Riker Hill instructional aide Emily Hans. Their last day of employment is June 30.
Leave of Absence
Three staff members will be taking leaves of absence. Harrison instructional aide Bonnie Goldman will leave between August 30,2023, and August 29, 2024. Livingston High School business education teacher Shawn Rembecky will leave October 2 and return November 27. Heritage Middle School instructional aide Debra Simet will return from an ongoing leave on August 30.
Appointments
The following five teachers will begin work at Livingston High School on August 30: French teacher Issam Helwani, math teacher Sarah Jang, English teachers Brian Hartt and Diane Cascioli, and learning disabilities teacher-consultant Ashwin Herekar.
Teachers of students with disabilities Celina Lewis and Gina Serrano, and art teacher Krista Fitzgerald will work at Burnet Hill Elementary beginning August 30.
Learning disabilities teacher-consultant Francesca Mattioli will work at Mt. Pleasant Middle School, and social studies teacher Leanna LoIacono will teach at Heritage Middle School starting August 30.
Daniel Kapuscinski will begin work as a district audiovisual and IT support specialist at Livingston High School on July 1.
Bus aide Jerina Fitzgerald will begin work on August 30.
The Board also approved Mark Faber as a consulting psychiatrist in the district from August 30 to June 30, 2024.
Paul Abbago, Onofre Esperon, and Luciana Geran will serve as custodian substitutes on an as-needed basis for the 2022-23 school year.
Summer Work
Several bus drivers, aides, nurses, curriculum writers, and workers for the Summer Academy program were approved, as well.
Open Campus Lunch
Juniors Jake Ferrans, Emily Strul-son, and Jason Yu asked Board members to grant juniors access to open campus lunch next school year, a privilege reserved for seniors. The Board approved the policy change.
