The Livingston Police Department will be holding its 14th National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1.
The event, held in towns across the country, is designed to strengthen neighborhoods through policecommunity partnerships.
“The goal is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs and, most importantly, represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination that is helping to make many neighborhoods safer places to live,” according to a Livingston police press release.
“It’s also the perfect opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other even better,” the release says.
Livingston’s event will be held at the Oval beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and will include food and drinks, rides, games, the Livingston Fire Department’s fire hoses, face painting, and balloon sculptures.
This year, the police department is inviting attendees to play a game of cornhole with them. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., officers will be playing games with community members on the field near the gazebo.
There will be displays from various local organizations and businesses. Any organization or local business can have a free display table at the event. To donate, request a table or to learn more about Livingston’s upcoming National Night Out, contact the Community Policing Unit at 973-992-3000 extension 3600 or email [email protected].
In case of rain, the event will be held inside Livingston High School.
