“We’re out of produce before 10 a.m. It’s crazy,” said Newark Emergency Services For Families (NESF) executive director, Amina Bey. She was talking about NESF’s monthly Community Food Giveaway in Newark.
For years, beginning with the pandemic, Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) has purchased cases of fresh produce and fruit for the monthly event. This time, directly because of Livingston’s continued contributions, LPI’s order was 75 cases filled with corn, apples, orange peppers, cabbage and clementine oranges at a cost of $1,500.
Additionally, through LPI’s partnership with Bimbo Bakeries USA, NESF received over 1,000 units of name-brand baked goods to service growing numbers of families living below the poverty line. NESF, as a major Newark non-profit assisting homeless and poor populations, shares some of the bounty with smaller local agencies serving similar constituencies.
For altruistic Livingston neighbors who are in a position to help keep the healthy nourishment flowing, emphasizing “healthy,” please consider a contribution by visiting LPI’s website at njhomeless.org or donate directly on PayPal at paypal.me/njhomeless. It’s important to note that a personal PayPal account is not required to use the service and that contributions are tax-deductible.
Livingston Philanthropies is an independent affiliate of HC/HY, Livingston.
