LFD Responds to Gas Odor at Police Headquarters

Livingston’s Fire Department responded to various calls over the past week, including two reports of gas odors found at the Police Headquarters and on Spier and Spalding Drive on Thursday, August 24.

Livingston’s Fire Department responded to various calls over the past week, including two reports of gas odors found at the Police Headquarters and on Spier and Spalding Drive on Thursday, August 24.

At the Police Headquarters, fire officials found a power washer that was being used on the roof, and the gaspowered unit was creating the odor. The building was then ventilated.

On Spier and Spalding Drive, fire officials detected a slight odor in the area and PSE&G was on the scene investigating.

Elevator Malfunction

One person was entrapped in an elevator at 22 Old Short Hills Road on August 28. The fire officials were able to remove the occupant and the elevator was taken out of service.

Wood Pallet Fire

A fire was extinguished on 94 Old Short Hills Road after a report of a wood pallet that was on fire near a fence and brush on August 23. The area was wet down afterwards.

Dryer Vent Issue

On August 22 at 7 Ashwood Drive, fire officials responded to a fire alarm transmission and found that there was an issue with the dryer vent. Residents were advised to have the vent inspected.

Water Flow Alarm

A water flow alarm was activated after a sprinkler head was struck at 2000 Latham Court on August 24. The system was shut down and drained. The repair company was then notified.

System Malfunctions

Numerous calls of a fire were activated as systems were malfunctioning in multiple locations. No fires were detected. Fire officials responded to a call on 91 South Orange Avenue on August 23 but discovered a system malfunction.

On the same day, a system malfunction was found on 1000 Town Center way and a vacant store’s fire alarm transmission at the Livingston (Continued from Page A-1) Mall was also a system malfunction.

A fire alarm was activated on August 22 at the Livingston Mall. Nothing was found that activated the malfunction.

That same day, a fire alarm call was canceled prior to arrival on 6 Sylvan Court.

Afire alarm transmission ended up with the detector having low battery at 34 Morningside Drive on August 28. The detector will be replaced.
