Attempted Burglaries, Package Thefts Reported

Two different attemptedhome burglaries were reported to Livingston Police in the past week. Additionally, packages were stolen from several Livingston homes.

Stratford Drive

At 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, officers responded to a Stratford Drive home on a report of an attempted burglary to the residence the prior night. Officers arrived and met with the homeowner, who said that they awoke to find the gate opened to their rear yard.

This prompted them to check their surveillance video from the overnight hours and they viewed several suspects attempting to gain entry to the residence. The suspects were unsuccessful andfledthe scene.

It is believed the suspects were attempting to steal the homeowner’s vehicle. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating the matter.

Chelsea Drive

At 3:23 a.m. on Sunday, October 22, officers responded to a Chelsea Drive home on a report of multiple suspects attempting to break into the residence. Upon arrival, officers found a stolen vehicle parked out front of the home. Upon seeing the officers, the suspects got back into the stolen vehicle and fled the scene, initiating a pursuit.

Officers pursued the vehicle to Route 280, where the pursuit was terminated. The vehicle eventually became disabled on the highway, and the remaining suspects fled on foot.

Responding officers were able to arrest one of the men, who did not get back into the fleeing vehicle. Arrested was Damion Williams, 28, of Hillside. He was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit theft and criminal attempted burglary. His charges were placed on a warrant and he was remanded to the Essex County Jail.

The Livingston Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation.

Package Thefts

Packages were reportedly stolen from three Livingston homes last week, Livingston Police said.

At 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, the victim of a package theft on Nettie Lane came into police headquarters to file a report. The victim stated that a new cell phone was delivered to his residence and then the package was stolen off his front porch.

The next day, at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, the victim of a package theft on East Cedar Street came into police headquarters to file a report. The victim also stated that a new cell phone was delivered to his residence and then the package was stolen off his front porch.

Two days later, at 2:53 p.m. on Friday, October 20, Livingston officers responded to a Chestnut Street residence on a home of package theft. The victim stated that a new cell phone was delivered to his residence and then the package was stolen off his front porch.

The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating each of the thefts.
