An unspecified incident at Livingston High School resulted in a 50-minute shelter-in-place order for a student emergency at 8:16 a.m. on Thursday morning, January 26, according to district officials.
According to an update the school district sent to parents, classes continued instruction during the order, though few additional details were disclosed.
“We recognize that is an unusually long period of time to keep our school community safe in classrooms while addressing an issue in the building,” read the update. “We cannot share specific details of the incident to maintain confidentiality for all parties involved; however, we can tell you that there was a student emergency that required immediate attention. Ambulances and the Livingston Police Department were called to the school this morning to ensure everyone’s safety. As the situation was brought to resolution, we ended the shelter-in-place, allowing staff and students to move about every area of Livingston High School as we do daily.”
The update continued, “This was an isolated incident; our school community is safe and there was and is no threat to Livingston High School. We thank our staff for acting quickly and appropriately in this moment. While this shelter-in-place was longer than usual, it is not uncommon to initiate this safety protocol when addressing localized emergencies, transporting individuals confidentially, or monitoring a sensitive situation. Working with the Livingston Police Department, students and staff practice these and other emergency procedures monthly and we are very proud of the way our school community handled this morning’s event.”
The Livingston Police Department did not release additional information as of press time Wednesday morning, citing an active investigation.
