Livingston Police were busy this week, responding to two incidents of shoplifting at Nordstrom Rack; two burglaries into vehicles; a residential burglary and an attempted residential burglary; and a stolen vehicle.
Winchester Road Burglary
On Sunday, December 24, at 2:31 a.m., Livingston officers responded to a Winchester Road residence on a report of a burglary. The homeowners told the officers they returned home after being out for several hours and found the home had been burglarized. Entry had been made through a rear window, and the house had been ransacked. At press time, the homeowners are compiling a list of the items that were stolen. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating.
Attempted Burglary
A day earlier, on Saturday, December 23, at 9:37 a.m., Livingston officers responded to a Woodcrest Drive residence on a report of an attempted burglary. Upon officers’ arrival the homeowner reported hearing someone at his front door and subsequently observing two suspects attempting to force entry into the rear of the home. The resident confronted the perpetrators and chased them off. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating.
Shoplifting at Nordstrom Rack
There were two reports of shoplifting from Nordstrom Rack, 530 West Mt. Pleasant Avenue, in as many days.
On Friday, December 22, at 10:24 a.m., Livingston officers responded to the store on a report of a shoplifter in custody. Upon officers’ arrival they were met by store loss prevention personnel, who had Patricia Hughes, 19 of East Orange, in custody for shoplifting. According to police, Hughes had concealed over $300 in merchandise and left the store without paying. She was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where she was charged with shoplifting and released on a summons.
At 5:43 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, police returned to Nordstrom Rack in response to another report of a shoplifter in custody. Upon officers’ arrival, they found Arisleyda Rosario, 33, of Passaic, in the custody of loss prevention personnel. According to police, Rosario had concealed over $500 in merchandise and left the store without paying. She had been apprehended, but two other suspects fled the scene. Rosario was placed under arrest and, at police headquarters, was charged with shoplifting, possession of an antishoplifting device, and conspiracy. She was released on a summons.
Vehicle Burglaries
There were two burglaries into vehicles reported on the same day, Friday, December 22.
At 11:04 a.m., Livingston officers responded to an East McClellan Avenue residence on a report of a burglary to a 2021 Mercedes Benz. The homeowner told police she had observed the suspect run up her driveway and enter her unlocked vehicle. The homeowner then yelled at the suspect, who fled in a waiting vehicle.
At 12:19 p.m., an Alcott Drive resident went to police headquarters to report that his 2022 Jeep had been burglarized in his driveway a few hours earlier. Via surveillance video, the homeowner was able to observe the suspect run up his driveway and enter his unlocked vehicle, from which money was stolen. The suspect then fled to a waiting vehicle.
The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating both incidents.
Stolen Vehicle
In a repeat of an increasingly common occurrence, a vehicle with the key fob left inside it was stolen.
At 9:55 p.m. on December 24, Livingston officers responded to a Cobblewood Road residence on a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon officers’ arrival they met with the victim, who stated that his 2018 Range Rover had been left unlocked with the key fob inside. The resident stated they had returned from a friend’s house to find the vehicle missing. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating.
In 1926, the Livingston Troop of Boy Scouts (today known as Troop 12) was founded with a membership of 46 boys.
