This past week, the Livingston Fire Department responded to a number of calls relating to fallen trees and power outages. They also assisted with a resident stuck in their home’s elevator and responded to a call about an odor. Additionally, LFD was called to the scene of a vehicle fire.
Vehicle Fire
On Tuesday morning, April 9, a vehicle fire occurred at the intersection of Walnut Street and Route 10. A contractor truck with an attached trailer caught on fire, seemingly due to a hydraulic oil leak.
When the LFD arrived, the vehicle’s engine and passenger compartments were engulfed in flames.
No injuries were reported. The fire was extinguished and the burned vehicle was removed by a towing company.
Power Outages and Downed Trees
On Wednesday, April 3, the fire department responded to a series of calls following a storm.
Apower outage was reported after a tree fell, causing a pole to snap outside of 173 Grove Terrace. This brought down power lines across the street. The lines were cleared and power was restored to the area.
A tree crashed through the rear of a home at 44 Lincoln Avenue. The tree was wedged in the second story roof of the residence. LFD secured power to the home and assisted the homeowner with removing contents from the room, as water had began to flood in it. The residents were advised to contact a tree removal company.
At the intersection of Laurel Avenue and Oxford Drive, a tree fell into the right of way and took down a power line with it. This caused a small brushfire. Public Services came and turned off the power.
On Thursday, April 4, another power line fell between 18 and 22 Symington Road. This caused a brief fire, which was de-energized and extinguished naturally.
Stuck in Elevator
The occupant at 713 Kensington Lane became stuck in the home’s residential elevator on Monday, April 8. The LFD shut down power to the unit and removed the resident from the elevator.
Burning Odor
On Sunday, April 7, the homeowners at 43 Wynnewood Road reported a burning odor coming from their furnace room. Upon arrival, the LFD found a problem with the home’s boiler.
PSE&G was notified and responded. Mutual Aid
On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 9, the LFD was called to East Hanover to assist with a house fire.
