This past week, the Livingston Fire Department responded to anumber of calls, including a May 4 house fire.
On Saturday, May 4, the resident at 46 Tremont Terrace heard a popping sound coming from the home’s sunroom. The homeowner then closed the door, separating the sunroom from the rest of the home, evacuated the residence, and called 9-1-1.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered afire coming from the sunroom. Fland lines were stretched to the rear of the residence to extinguish the fire. Fans were used for ventilation, electric lines were turned off, and overhaul was conducted.
Additionally, Roseland Fire Department sent an engine to the scene to assist.
Fire Chief Chris Mullin commended all firefighters for a quick and efficient response and knockdown, while keeping damage to the residence to a minimum.
Mulch Fire
On Friday, May 3, a small area of mulch was seen burning near the entrace to the complex at 530 West Mt. Pleasant Avenue. The area was wet down and the fire was extinguished.
Elevator Issues
On Sunday, May 5, the LFD received two calls regarding residents having issues with elevators.
An elevator entrapment was reported at 22 Old Short Hills Road. LFD found that one of the two elevators was stuck on the second floor landing. Power was disconnected to the car and and one occupant was removed from the elevator. Management was advised.
The other incident took place at 3000 Pointe Gate Drive, where an occupant was reported to be stuck in the elevator. Upon arrival, the firefighters checked the two elevators, and both were vacant.
Shorted Fan
On Thursday, May 2, a ceiling fan inside the residence of 5 Scarsdale Drive shorted out. A bird’s nest was discovered in the unit. The ceiling fan was removed and the homeowner was notified.
Wires
On May 3, LFD was called to 30 Billingsley Drive to assist with the removal of downed wires. The call was cancelled prior to the firefighters’ arrival.
Odor
On Sunday, May 5, the residents at 17 Lockhern Drive reported a burning odor coming from their residence. Upon arrival, LFD found that an HVAC unit’s motor had malfunctioned. Power to the unit was shut off and the homeowner was advised.
Transmissions
On May 1, a fire alarm transmission was activated at 20 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue. The panel was reset and no issue was found.
A carbon monoxide alarm went off at 51 North Mitchell Avenue. LFD checked the residence with a gas meter, and no readings were found. They let the resident know the detector should be replaced.
Another fire alarm transmission came from 222 Laurel Avenue on May 3. The system was set to “trouble mode” but no problem was found.
On May 2, the LFD received a pull station activation from 483 South Livingston Avenue. Both the system and the box were reset.
