With two seats on the Livingston Public Schools Board of Education up for reelection this November, the district is encouraging residents to consider running for a seat on the Board.
“Local school board membership is a challenging and rewarding way to serve your community and its schoolchildren,' the district said in a statement. “Now is the time to consider school board candidacy for the Livingston Board of Education. In November, voters will elect two candidates to serve for three year terms.”
The Board seats currently occupied by Pam Chirls and Jenissa Arnette will be up for a vote. Chirls, who is currently serving as the Board’s president, said that she intends to seek reelection. Arnette, currently the Board’s vice president, has yet to announce her plans for the next term.
Acandidate must file a nominating petition with the county clerk for his or her name to appear on the ballot during the annual school election. The deadline to submit the petition is 4 p.m. on Monday, July 29. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5.
Prospective school board candidates can download candidate information from the New Jersey School BoardsAssociation’s website, njsba. org. On that site will soon be a school board candidate kit that includes information about nominating petitions, legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process will also be included.
