It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Carol Hirsch (née Cohen), who left us on May 29, 2024, at the age of 80. Judy was a beloved wife, mother, nana, great-nana, sister, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Born on February 7, 1944, in Trenton, NJ, Judy was the youngest child of Edward and Rhea Cohen. She grew up in a loving home with her older brother, Robert and attended Pennsbury High School. Judith pursued an interest in higher learning and attended George Washington University and pledged Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority.

In 1964, Judith married the love of her life, Barry Hirsch. Their 60-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love, mutual respect and taking care of each other. Together, they raised two wonderful children: Stephanie and Deborah. Judy was a devoted mother, always putting her family first and providing unwavering support and guidance. She cherished her role as a grandmother to her five grandchildren, one greatgranddaughter and several bonus grand and great-grandchildren, all who were the light of her life.

Judy was known for her generous spirit and her active involvement in her community. She was an active member of the Women’s American ORT, helping fund training and education for Jewish women around the world. She was a huge supporter of the local library and an avid reader. Judy worked for 20 years as an office manager at an OB/GYN office loving every new mom and baby that came through the door.

Judy had a remarkable ability to connect with people. Her friends and family will remember her for her kindness and quick wit, and her ability to listen. She was the Vere Terrace neighborhood Mom making everyone feel welcome in her home or yard. Judy was an avid baker. Her family will sorely miss her famous black bottom cups. Other hobbies included cooking, reading, and needlepoint. The New York Times Crossword Puzzle was a part of her weekly agenda, turning into the NY Times games in her later years.

Judy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Barry; her children, Stephanie (and her husband, Scott), Deborah (and her husband David); her grandchildren, Nicholas (and his wife Cynthia), Rebecca (and her husband Kyle), Sophie, Isabella, and Alexander; her great-granddaughter Logan and older brother Robert Cohen (and his wife Peggy). She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Rhea Cohen, and son-in-law, James Vadas.

A celebration of Judy’s life was held on Friday, May 31, at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel at 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Judy’s memory to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes. org.

Judith Carol Hirsch will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
