The Livingston High School varsity tennis team completed its season with a 15-12 record. First and second singles players Dennis Wang and Dhruv Anantaraman competed in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (NJSIAA) Singles Tournament.
The North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Sectional Final was played at Ridgewood High School before a large, enthusiastic crowd. Ridgewood beat Livingston, 4-1.
In first singles, Nikolas Martirossian of Ridgewood, defeated Dennis Wang, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8, (10-8). In second singles, Anantaraman of Livingston, beat Ethan Rosenberg 6-0, 6-2. For third singles, Benjamin Caradonna of Ridgewood defeated Livingston’s Arjun Bansal with a final score of 6-2, 6-2.
In first doubles,the Ridgewood team of Peter Baksheev and Jacob Marcovici beat the Livingston duo of Jake Hershkin and Jared Melamed, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 (10-7). For second doubles, Ethan Hong and Yuri Jung of Ridgewood, defeated Lancers Jacob Goldstein and Dylan Tovitz, 6-3, 6-4.
The Lancers lost first doubles and first singles in three set match tiebreaks and the team played without third singles player Julian Turovetz.
In the state singles tournament, Anantaraman defeated Nick Stylides, 6-2, 6-2, before losing in the second round to Ananth Vasishta of Hightstown, 5-7, 6-7 (4-7).
Wang defeated Landon Schuster, of Cherry Hill East, 6-0, 6-1; he also defeated Jack Dahler, of Gill St. Bernards, 6-3, 6-1; next, he won over Sarvesh Premkumaar, of Edison, 6-0, 6-0;before losing to Archit Yemula, of Ridge, 5-7, 4-6. Yemula is the second seeded player in the tournament of 128 players and Wang is seeded in the top 16. Yemula advanced to the quarterfinals with the win.
