Police Department Announces First Community Block Party

The Livingston Police Department will hold its first Community Block Party event on Sunday, September 29, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oval.

The Livingston Police Department will hold its first Community Block Party event on Sunday, September 29, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oval.

This event will replace National Night Out, which has been held annually in August. The Community Block Party will still have all of the aspects that residents have come to associate with the free event over the years such as food and soft drinks, rides, carnival games, giveaways, balloon twisting, face painting, music, law enforcement displays, safety/security demonstrations, and children’s activities.

The decision to change the event stemmed from several factors. First, the department has had to compete for resources with many other New Jersey towns that were also participating in National Night Out. By having a stand-alone event, the department will be able to secure additional law enforcement personnel from other agencies to participate. Second, many residents are on vacation in August and unable to attend. Third, by having the event on a weekend, it can start earlier in the day.

At the Community Block Party, there will be displays from various local organizations and businesses. Organizations or any local business that are interested in having a free display table at the event, or anyone who would like to make a donation, or learn more about the upcoming event, is asked to call the Community Policing Unit at 973-992-3000, extension #3600, or email [email protected].
