Last week, Livingston celebrated another spectacular Fourth of July on the Oval, with residents enjoying a full calendar of activities leading up to the fantastic fireworks display in the evening. Attendance seemingly rises each year (check out some of the photos in this issue of the Tribune for proof), as residents bring their friends and families from outside the township to celebrate Independence Day. With a schedule of activities that filled the entire day, start to finish, the event literally offered something for everyone – and it sure seemed like all took advantage of it. Much praise should be bestowed upon Livingston’s Fourth of July committee, which puts countless hours into planning this huge affair. We are sure the members are already preparing to top it with next year’s event.
But while Fourth of July may be over, the summer fun has just begun. Part of what makes Livingston so special is that our community provides so many opportunities for summer activities and relaxation right here in town. Residents do not have to leave town to join a pool, participate in a group hike, play in a sports league, participate in educational programs, watch an outdoor movie, or listen to great live music. They also do not have to spend a lot of money.
Free summer events will continue over the next few months. So go outside and take advantage of the summer fun happening just a few blocks from home. Walk, hike, and run through our trails and parks. Ride bikes around town, fish in the pond, and meet up with friends for lunch. Pick up a new sport, try as many ice cream flavors as you can, and host a barbecue and invite your neighbors (and your humble newspaper employees). And if you decide to take a trip down the shore or out of state, that is fine too. Enjoy the summer in your own way.
Take the time to enjoy the warm (albeit a bit too warm, at times) weather while we have it, because while the spirit of the community may be year-round, these sunny days will not last forever!
