Continuing A Legacy

Continuing A Legacy

This month, the West Essex Tribune turns 95. On July 6, 1929, the first issue of the Tribune was published, and nine decades later, we are still going strong. There has been a lot of change in the years since that first edition hit newsstands, but the goal of Livingston’s Community Newspaper remains the same: keeping residents informed of everything happening in their town.

Of course, none of our current employees were on that masthead in 1929, so we cannot speak from firsthand experience about publishing a newspaper back then. But some of our current employees who started working here in the early 1980s do know what it was like for the last half century. And judging by the drastic changes we have experienced since then, we can only imagine the challenges of doing so at the close of the roaring ’20s.

We have seen a lot over the past few decades here – a lot of happenings here in town; a lot of change, development, and growth in Livingston; a lot of transition in the newspaper industry. As difficult as it can be to publish a small weekly newspaper these days, we still cannot wait to discover what will be front page news years down the line.

Thanks for letting us keep the lights on for all this time. Livingston’s future looks bright, and we hope we will all celebrate 100 together in a few short years!
