Three candidates have filed their petitions with the Essex County clerk’s office to run for a seat on the Livingston Public Schools Board of Education.

Three candidates have filed their petitions with the Essex County clerk’s office to run for a seat on the Livingston Public Schools Board of Education.

Previously announced to be seeking Board seats were incumbent president Pam Chirls and Inna Yelisevich.

Just prior to the deadline, Samantha Messer filed to run for a seat on the Board. Messer is a former Livingston BoardofEducationmember. She did not seek reelection after her latest term, insteadrunningunsuccessfully for a seat on the Township Council as an independent.

The filing deadline to run was Monday, July 29. Messer said that she filed prior to the deadline to leave open the option of running for the Board, but has not yet made a decision.

“Having been a Board member, I am aware of the significant time commitment required,” Messer said.

“If I run for the Board, it has to be a family decision. My children are away at camp, and I am waiting for them to get home so we can have a family conversation about how this would impact all of us. If everyone agrees it is a good idea, I will officially announce my candidacy.”

Including Chirls, whose term expires at the end of the year, there are two seats that will be open in the upcoming election. Elected members will serve three-year terms on the Board.
