Six Police Officers are Promoted to Sergeant

Six Police Officers are Promoted to Sergeant

During the Monday, July 29, meeting of the Livingston Township Council, Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz promoted several officers to the rank of Sergeant.

The six new Sergeants in the department are Kevin Mullaney, Michael Spano, Paul Lenzi, David Cordero, Joseph Fosko, and Carl McNamara. The first five officers attended the meeting to receive their promotions; Mullaney was not present, though township manager Barry Lewis said all were invited. The officers were promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May and June.

Prior to introducing the Sergeants, Chief Marshuetz noted that Livingston is in the process of “rebuilding the department” following several retirements in upper level positions. In May, two new Captains and four Lieutenants were sworn in. The department also hired 11 officers over the last seven months; six of them are transfers and five are currently in the police academy. These officers are expected to be officially sworn in at a ceremony during a Council meeting in September.

Mullaney

Sergeant Mullaney graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a bachelor’s degree in English. He went on to graduate from Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business with a master’s degree in business administration (MBA). Sergeant Mullaney graduated at the top of his class from the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Academy class #110 in June of 2013. He worked previously for the Westwood Police Department before being hired by his hometown of Livingston in July of 2015.

Sergeant Mullaney has held positions in the Patrol Division, Community Policing Unit, and Detective Bureau, holding the position of school andhouses ofworship security liaison. He has previously served as a member of the Emergency Services Unit as a sniper and a grenadier.

Sergeant Mullaney held the position of juvenile detective before being promoted to Sergeant in May and is currently assigned to the Patrol Diviemployees sion as a shift supervisor.

Sergeant Mullaney would like to thank his family; wife, Alysa; and Uncle Chris for the years of love and support.

Spano

Sergeant Spano graduated from William Paterson University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Sergeant Spano originally taught physical education in the City of Paterson School District before deciding to pursue a career in law enforcement like his father, John Spano, who was a Sergeant in the Paterson Police Department.

Sergeant Spano graduated from the Passaic County Police Academy Class 13-41 in July of 2013. After working for the Clifton Police Department, he was hired by Livingston in January of 2016.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Spano has worked in both the Patrol Division and Detective Division, and held the position of Detective, before being promoted to Sergeant in May. Sergeant Spano is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as a shift supervisor.

Sergeant Spano would like to thank his family; and his children, Michael and Dean, for the years of love and support.

Lenzi

Sergeant Lenzi served his country in the United States Navy from 1992 to 1994, serving in both the Persian Gulf and Somalia. After his service, he graduated from the Middlesex County College with an associate’s degree in criminal justice.

Sergeant Lenzi graduated from the Somerset County Police Academy Class 22-99 in June of 1999. Prior to being hired by Livingston in September of 2001, he worked for both the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department and the Dunellen Police Department.

Sergeant Lenzi has held positions in the Patrol Division, training, and was assigned to the Traffic Division before being promoted to Sergeant in May. Sergeant Lenzi has been an academy instructor at the Somerset and Essex County PoliceAcademies. Sergeant Lenzi is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as a shift supervisor.

Sergeant Lenzi would like to thank his family; wife, Yvette, and his children, Baelynn, Cody, Bryce, Justin; and numerous grandchildren for the years of love and support.

Cordero

Sergeant Cordero graduated from County College of Morris with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Sergeant Cordero was hired by Livingston in March of 2012 and graduated from the Essex County Police Academy class 12-02 in August of 2012.

Sergeant Cordero takes great pride in being the first Latino officer hired and promoted to the rank of Sergeant by Livingston.

Sergeant Cordero has worked both in the Patrol Division and Detective Division and held the position of Detective before being promoted to Sergeant in June. Sergeant Cordero is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as a shift supervisor.

Sergeant Cordero would like to thank his family; wife, Katherine; and daughters, Matilda and Penelope, for the years of love and support.

Fosko

Sergeant Fosko graduated from Saint Peter’s University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minor in criminal justice. Sergeant Fosko graduated from the Morris County Police Academy Class 40 in December of 1992.After working for the Passaic Township Police Department, he was hired by Livingston in September of 1995.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Fosko has worked in the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, Professional Standards Bureau, Records Bureau, and most recently held the position of traffic officer before being promoted to Sergeant in June. Sergeant Fosko is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as a shift supervisor.

Sergeant Fosko would like to thank his family; wife, Arlene, and mother, Margaret, for the years of love and support.

McNamara

Sergeant McNamara graduated from Marist College with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology. Sergeant McNamara graduated from the Bergen County PoliceAcademy Class 111 in December of 2013. After working with the Clifton Police Department, he was hired by Livingston in July of 2015.

Throughout his career, Sergeant McNamara has worked in both the Patrol Division and Detective Division, and held the position of Detective before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June. He is currently assigned to theAdministrative Sergeant’s position.

Sergeant McNamara would like to thank his family; wife, Colleen, and children, Alexandra and Cameron, for the years of love and support.
