Livingston Police officers recovered a stolen luxury vehicle and detectives are looking into several thefts that occurred in town over the past week.
Recovered Vehicle
At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, a Livingston officer observed a 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML350 in the area of West Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Daven Road that had several motor vehicle violations. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle, which was found to have been stolen out ofNewark.
The driver, Eduardo Carranza, 36, and passenger, Lageena Mitchell, 25, both from New York City, were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.
Carranza was charged with receiving stolen property and several motor vehicle violations. Mitchell was charged with joy riding in a stolen vehicle. Both were released on summonses pending a court date.
Catalytic Converter Thefts
In the overnight hours ofThursday, February 16, there were multiple reports throughout town of thefts of catalytic converters. The converters had been cut out from parked vehicles.
The locations of the thefts included the Exxon gas station on East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, where two converters were stolen; Fusion Tech on Dorsa Avenue, where three were stolen; Livingston Collision on West Mt. Pleasant Avenue, where one was stolen; and the Lock Up self storage facility, where one was stolen.
The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating the matter Theft From Unlocked Vehicle At 8:22 a.m. on Monday, February 20, Livingston Police officers responded to a Bryant Drive home on a report of a wallet stolen from a vehicle.
Upon officers’arrival, they met with the victim, who said that he had his wallet stolen from his unlocked 2021 BMW X5 one day earlier.
The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating the matter.
