Sherill Silver Remembered at Library

Sherill Silver was remembered at the Livingston Library this month, with the dedication of a plaque in the adult fiction section.

Silver graduated from Montclair State College (now University) in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and earned a master’s degree in art education from Indiana University in 1973. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a revenue agent for almost 40 years.

Upon retirement, Silver pursued her love of art by taking many painting classes. She enjoyed creating in many media, including watercolor and photography, and exhibited her work all over New Jersey.

Silver was also an avid reader and ardent supporter of the Livingston Library. Her literary interests were wide ranging, and members of her reading club noted how much she contributed to book discussions. She and Cary, her husband of 47 years, were “Circle Member” Friends of the Library.

In addition, she enjoyed travel, playing canasta, and doing puzzles. She participated in Jewish celebrations and cherished time with family and friends. “An outpouring of donations to Friends of the Library by her friends speaks to the impact Silver had on those whose lives she touched,” said library director and Friends of the Livingston Public Library boardmember Amy Babcock.

She is survived by husband, Cary; son, Jeff; daughter-in-law, Ally; and two grandchildren, Dylan and Blake.

Babcock said, “We are honored that Ms. Silver’s family and friends selected our library as the way to remember her. We also believe that her life embodied the very qualities which our library’s mission celebrates – community, compassion, connection, creativity. We hope people will think of this when visiting the library stacks and seeing the plaque.”
