The Livingston Township Council, at its Monday, September 9, meeting, passed several resolutions and introduced an ordinance to fund the design and construction of the new Department of Public Works facility.
Public Works Facility
An ordinance was introduced to approve a $7,500,000 bond ordinance to fund the design and construction of the new Department of Public Works facility. The funds cover all of the work materials necessary to complete the job.
The new DPW building will be located on Industrial Parkway. The land for the proposed building was acquired by the town in 2019. The current building on South Livingston Avenue has been in a state of disrepair for many years.
“It has been a long time coming and a very well deserved building for them. They are the backbone of this operation,” Deputy Mayor Ed Meinhardt said. “We look forward to it coming in the next year, 18 months, or so.”
“This facility will create a good environment for our equipment and our personnel,” Council member Ketan Bhuptani said.
“Anything that gets done in Livingston has the fingerprints of the DPW on it,” Council member Michael Vieira said. “I can’t wait to see it get built.”
Council member Shawn Klein noted that building the facility coincides with the township’s “report a concern” system on the website, in that it will improve township services for residents. “This will go hand in hand,” Klein said.
“We have the hardest working DPW workers in the state,” Mayor Al Anthony said. “They’re a big part of what we can get done up here.”
The ordinance will have its second hearing during the September 23 meeting.
