The Livingston Police Department is hosting its inaugural Community Block Party on Sunday, September29 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oval. This free community event will feature food and soft drinks, rides, carnival games, giveaways, balloon twisting, face painting, and exciting law enforcement displays from municipal, state and federal agencies. There will also be police and other emergency vehicles on display, helicopter landings, K9 units, and Essex County prosecutor Theodore Stevens, and an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog. The event is meant to foster stronger ties between neighbors and law enforcement, building a true sense of community.
Youth Appreciation Week’s Family Fun Festival will be part of this event, adding more family-friendly activities such as a petting zoo, craft tent, pony rides, chalk walk, and touch-a-truck. Also at the event will be the Livingston Fire Department’s annual Fire Prevention Open House. There will be fire apparatus on display along with tools and equipment as well as a motor vehicle accident (Continued on Page A-6) (Continued from Page A-1) extrication demonstration, which will be done with the assistance of the Livingston First Aid Squad, to replicate an actual accident scene. There will also be a rubber duck water slide, raising money for the St. Barnabas Burn Center Foundation.
