LFD Responds To Wildfire Flare Ups

The Livingston Fire Department (LFD) responded to a number of calls this past week. Many were related to the wildfire on Industrial Parkway.

Fires

The LFD made multiple trips to Industrial Parkway to extinguish flare up fires that were the result of fallen leaves falling on areas that are still smoldering. The LFD returned to the Parkway on October 30, November 1, and November 2.

On Friday, November 1, the LFD came to 82 Naylon Drive to exinguish a fire in the woods near the residence. The fire department worked in conjunction with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Later that day, firefighters extinguished a flare up near 123 Naylon Drive.

There was an electrical fire at 103 Laurel Avenue on Friday, November 1. The home’s Public Services Electric and Gas (PSE&G) substationhad caught fire. The LFD was on stand by until power was restored.

Firefighters also extinguished a flare up near the township’s sewage treatment plant, located at 81 Naylon Avenue on Friday, November 1.

That Friday, the LFD extinguished a fire behind the Lock Up Self Storage, located at 305 Eisenhower Parkway.

The LFD returned to Naylon Avenue that Friday night to extinguish a large fire near the town’s Sewage and Water Pollution Control Facility.

Firefighters were called to 22 FranklinAvenue on Friday, November 1, when the homeowner was found to be burning waste in a fire pit. The resident was made aware of the town’s policies and the fire was extinguished.

On Saturday, November 2, the LFD extinguished a tree on fire near 305 Eisenhower Parkway.

That Saturday, firefighters returned to Naylon Avenue to wet down the brush again.

Firefighters extinguished a brush fire on Sunday, November 3, on Dorsa Avenue.

The LFD received a report of a leaf fire near 26 Longview Road on Monday, November 4. Upon arrival, the fire was discovered to be ion batteries burning in the back of a garbage truck. The fire was extinguished.

On Tuesday, November 5, there was a leaf fire near 79 Falcoln Road. Firefighters extinguished the flames.

On Monday, November 4, the LFD was called to 223 East Northfield Road when the residents reported smoke within the home. Upon arrival, the smoke was determined to be a result of a faulty sub pump. Firefighters set up fans and ventilated the residence.

Gas Odor

The LFD received a report of a gas leak coming from the dryer at 119 Kensington Lane. Upon arrival, the LFD checked the residence with the department’s gas readers but no readings were found. Public Services was also on the scene.

The resident at 8 Hemlock Road reported a gaseous odor on Friday, November 1. The odor was determined to be a result of the fire on Industrial Parkway.

Strange Odor

The residents at 10 Boynton Drive reported a strange odor coming from the residence on Friday, November 1. Upon investigation, the LFD discovered the odor was the result of the floor drain. Firefighters checked the residence with the department’s gas meters and no readings were found.

Elevator Assistance

The LFD was called to 66 West Mt. Pleasant Avenue on Tuesday, November 5, when the location’s elevator alarm was activated. Upon arrival, firefighters found the elevators to be in working order with no residents trapped in the units.

False Alarms

The fire alarm at 70 Glendale Avenue was activated on Monday, November 4. The LFD assisted the homeowner in resetting the system.

On Sunday, November 3, the fire alarm at 30 West Drive was activated. However, the call was cancelled prior to the LFD’s arrival on the scene.

The fire alarm at 11 Microlab Road was activated as the result of contractors working on the scene.

The fire alarm at 38 Amherst Place was activated as the result of a malfunction on Friday, November 1.

The carbon monoxide detector at 6 Fawn Drive was activated on Friday, November 1, due to a malfunction.

The fire alarm at 346 East Cedar Street was activated due to burned food.

On Wednesday, October 30, the carbon monoxide detector at 6 Fawn Drive alerted due to a low battery. Firefighters returned to the residence the following day to assist the homeowner in resetting the device’s battery.
