The Livingston Fire Department (LFD) responded to a number of calls this past week, including multiple fires and reports of residents illegally using fire pits.
Fires
Another brush fire was reported on Okner Parkway on Thursday, November 7. Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered the state was backbuming an area, so no action was taken.
Later that Thursday, firefighters responded to a fire at 123 Naylon Avenue. Firefighters found leaves smoldering from a brush fire over a 10’x20’ area, which they successfully wet down.
On Friday, November 8, the LFD received a call reporting a brush fire burning on Dorsa Avenue. Firefighters wet down the area and notified the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
(Continued on Page A-6) The following day, firefighters returned to Dorsa Avenue when an area near the service road was reported to be on fire. Upon arrival, the LFD extinguished the flames.
The LFD was called to 18 Mountain Ridge Drive on Sunday, November 10, when a commerical lawn mower was reported to be on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found the lawnmower and nearby piles of leaves were engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished.
The LFD was called to 156 East Cedar Street on Sunday, November 11, when an alarm went off in the building’s apartment unit 1214. Upon investigation, firefighters discovered a microwave in the unit had caught fire. The firefighters set up fans to ventilate the area.
Fire Pits
That Saturday night, the LFD was dispatched to 49 Trocha Avenue when the homeowner was found to be using an outdoor fire pit. The resident was advised of the town’s severe fire restrictions that are currently in effect, and the fire was extinguished.
Firefighters were called to 438 South Livingston Avenue that same day when a fire pit was reportedly being used inside of an outdoor tent. The residents were reminded of the fire restrictions under effect throughout the Township and the fire was extinguished.
Car Accident
A car drove through a fence into the backyard of 9 Millstone Drive, and into a nearby gully on Sunday, November 10. The LFD stood by as the vehicle was removed from the scene.
Gas Odor
On Thursday, November 7, a gas odor was reported at Mt. Pleasant Middle School. Upon arrival, the odor was determined to be coming from a stove knob that had been left on. The stove was turned off and the area was ventilated.
Stuck in Elevator
On Monday, November 11, the LFD was called to 290 South Livingston Avenue when a woman was reported to be stuck in the elevator. When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they successfully removed the woman from the elevator car.
Stovetop Shorted Out
The LFD was called to 1305 Town Center Way on Wednesday, November 6, due to a stovetop shorting out in one of the unit’s condominiums. Firefighters turned off the gas and power to the unit.
Shorted Out Fire Alarm
The LFD was called to 348 East Cedar Street when a fire alarm shorted out in the building’s parking garage. Firefighters were able to reset the system and the alarm company was notified.
Alarm Activation
Later that Sunday, firefighters responded to a fire alarm activation at 8 Post Lane. When they arrived on the scene, the fire alarm was determined to be the result of the resident cooking. The area was ventilated.
