The Livingston High School boys’ track and field team competed at the Coach Glynn Holiday Carnival, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island on December 28. 42 schools were represented, with hundreds of competitors in each event on the track and in the field.
The Lancer team was led off with multiple silver medal finishes by the 4x800 meter relay squads. The varsity team of Danny Wang, Ricky Romero, David Flores, and Sean Tesoriero was first to set the trend with its finish of 8:23.99. The novice squad was next with a time of 8:47.59. These runners included Matt Chong, Jinay Veera, SenJun Liu, and Ryan Kropac. Not to be outdone, the freshmen grouping completed the silver medal haul withAnil Gupta, Jonas Liu,Ashwath Pilal, andAaron Kustanovich finishing with a time of 11:01.50.
The sprint relay teams were next up. The varsity 4x200 squad of Jesse Kaufman, Brandon Lee, Nick Gemellaro, and Corey Leavy finished second in a time of 1:32.23, with Leavy racing an exciting final 200 meters to secure the second place finish. Tremayne Major,Aidan Zotti, Charles Budzinski, and Kai Mc-Clean also ran a competitive race to place second in the freshman division with a time of 1:44.72.
In addition to the relays, the LHS team competed in individual events. Top medal performers included Leavy, who opened the season in the 200 with a time of 22.64 to place third with sophomore Gemellaro in fourth at 22.74; freshman McClean, who finished sixth in the 55 meter dash in his division (7.32); and senior Nick Siao, who pole vaulted 11-6 to grab a third-place finish. With the large group of athletes attending, 34 season’s best performances were achieved in the sprint, distance, and field divisions.
As the team completes 2024 with some strong performances, the athletes will prepare for the Super Essex Conference Championship on January 11, when they will return to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
