A water main break occurred on Thursday morning, January 23, outside of CoopermanBamabas Medical Center (CBMC), causing a disruption of some services for about two days.
The hospital remained open throughout repairs, with partial impacts to operations including postponement or cancellation of surgical procedures and some outpatient services.
The emergency department remained open for walk-ins, but ambulances were diverted to other facilities.
The water main was fixed at about 7 p.m. that evening, with water restored to the hospital. The facility remained on a water restriction until testing was completed and the water was at an optimal safety level for consumption, which was expected to take 24 to 48 hours to complete.
Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, January 24, the emergency department returned to its normal operating procedure, no longer on divert status. All medical procedures and surgeries resumed on Saturday, January 25.
“We deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of our patients and communities throughout this unfortunate situation, and applaud our team and community partners for their efforts in ensuring the safety and care of our patients and employees,” CBMC stated in an update on the situation.
