Maestro Anthony LaGruth and the Livingston Symphony Orchestra are preparing for their annual free family concert, “Who Needs a Conductor?” on Sunday, February 23.
All of the members of the orchestra know how to read music and play their instruments, and yet they have someone in front of them with his or her back to the audience waving a stick. Is this conductor their coach or coordinator or cheerleader, and do the musicians even pay attention to what he or she is doing with that “baton?” By listening to excerpts from a Bach prelude, Beethoven’sF//?/! Symphony and American composers Bernstein and Copland, the audience will hear the sounds of the various instruments and find out how the conductor makes the magic of music come together.
Everyone is invited to this free concert on Sunday, February 23, beginning at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Middle School.
This free family concert (donations gratefully accepted!) includes a prize (Continued on Page A-5) raffle for children. The orchestra asks that children under 12 be accompanied by an adult. For more information, visitlsonj.org or call
