Livingston Fire Department Responds to Calls

The Livingston Fire Department (LFD) responded to a number of calls this past week, including a vehicle fire, a downed tree, and arcing wires.

Vehicle Fire

Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Route 280 on Saturday, March 8. The vehicle was heading east and located between exits 5 and 6.

Upon arrival, the LFD found the vehicle was fully engulfed in fire. The flames were extinguished and no injuries were reported.

The Roseland Fire Department was also dispatched and stood by on the highway to provide crash protection.

Tree Uprooted

On Thursday, March 6, a large pine tree was uprooted and resting on the primary service wires of the residence at 55 Old Road.

JCP&L was notified and responded. The Livingston Police Department temporarily closed the roadway.

Arcing Wires

The LFD received a report of low hanging wires in front of the residence at 48 Irving Avenue on Friday, March 7. The homeowner was advised to contact an electrician to resecure the wires.

Arcing wires were reported at the intersection of Dickenson Lane and Passaic Avenue on Saturday, March 8. Upon investigation, firefighters discovered the wires at the top of the utility pole were arcing. JCP&L was notified and responded to assist.

Carbon Monoxide

On Wednesday, March 5, the carbonmonoxide detector at 3302 Pointe Gate Drive was activated.

Upon investigation, firefighters discovered 220 parts per million (ppm) of carbon monoxide at the residence’shotwater heater. PSE&G was on the scene.

The hot water heater was shut off, (Continued on Page A-6) (Continued from Page A-1) and the residents were made aware that they should replace the unit.

Fire Department

On Sunday March 9, there was a brush fire on the property at 80 West Cedar Street.

Upon arrival, the LFD discovered an area with the approximate dimensions of 20 inches by 30 inches was engulfed. The firefighters extinguished the flames and advised the homeowner.

Elevator Emergency

The LFD was notified of an elevator emergency at 369 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue on Sunday, March 9. Upon arrival, all elevator cars were checked and no problems were discovered.

Alarm Transmissions

The fire alarm at 2000 Pointe Gate Drive was activated on Wednesday, March 5, due to a contractor working on the scene.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center’s fire alarm was activated due to a pull station error on Wednesday, March 5. The system was reset.

On Thursday, March 6, the LFD received a fire alarm transmission from Mt. Pleasant Elementary School. There was no problem detected, as the alarm was activated as part of the school’s fire drill.

The fire alarm at Livingston High School was activated due to a malfunction with the school’s heating unit on Saturday, March 8.
