Earlier this month, 27 people participated in a trip to Newark offered by theArts Council of Livingston (ACL). The group’s first stop was the oldest continuously functioning synagogue in Newark, Ahavas Shalom. The congregation’s art gallery presented an exhibition based on a theme from Maya Agnelou, “We are more alike than different.”
The group then visited the Newark Museum of Art that features the Ballantine House, a famous Tibetan shrine, and works by famous 20th Century artists, among other attractions.
The final stop that day was Casa Vasca, a Basque restaurant where participants enjoyed lunch.
“The experience of seeing such an inspirational art exhibit at a house of worship that has served the community for well over a hundred years was really thrilling,” said ACL member Frank Dyer. “The treasures of the Newark Museum of Art followed by a sumptuous meal at Casa Vasca were the icing on the cake.”
