The Livingston High School boys’varsity lacrosse team defeated arch-rival Millburn High School by a score of 12-7 on Wednesday, April 16. The schools played in the annual “Jake Cup” game, held in memory of the former Livingston and Millburn lacrosse coach Al Jacobson. A World War II veteran, “Coach Jake” was a longtime physical education teacher at Livingston High School, all while he was the head coach in football and lacrosse, compiling over 200 victories for each program. After retirement from Livingston HS, Jacobson spent many years as an assistant football and lacrosse coach at Millburn High School.
Livingston’s victory in the 21st “Jake Cup” game was highlighted by a Lancer defense, led by senior goalie Frank Bagolie who ended with 13 saves. Senior defenseman Alex Diorio, Cooper Sultan, Hunter Levy, and Conor Healy were joined by underclassmanAustin Schragen and Eli Kushner to help shut down the Miller offense.
On the offensive side of the ball, senior Luke Piche led all scorers with eight points (three goals and five assists), while juniors Reid Snow (four goals) and Noah Shin (three goals) and seniors Hudson Siegel (one goal) and Zemir Faith (one goal) helped lead the Lancer onslaught.
This was Livingston’s 11th victory in the series, winning nine of the past 11 games, including the past four games in a row. At press time, the Lancer record now stands at 4-4.
