Livingston Fire Department Chief Chris Mullin and Deputy Chief Josh Lewis will receive the Medal of Valor from the 200 Club of Essex County at an awards ceremony on May 5.
The award is in recognition of the fire department’s rescue of the resident of 88 Irving Avenue during a chemical exposure incident that occurred in October of 2024.
“It is a true honor for myself and Deputy Chief Josh Lewis to be recognized by the 200 Club of Essex County with a 2024 Medal of Valor,” Chief Mullin said. “Being recognized alongside the many public safety heroes – police officers and firefighters throughout Essex County – for the brave work they do every day is a career highlight.”
Mullin continued, “Public safety professionals go to work each shift hoping to make a difference in someone’s life. I believe we truly made a difference for this homeowner in distress back in October 2024. I am personally gratified that we were able to make that difference for one of our own Livingston residents. I would also like to recognize our Livingston firefighters who arrived to assist, along with our Livingston police officers, dispatchers, and the multiple EMS crews who responded to treat all involved. It was a job well done by all.”
“It is an absolute honor to be recognized and to receive this award,” Deputy Chief Lewis said. “I’m glad I was able to assist the chief with removing the homeowner under such conditions. You don’t wake up in the morning expecting anything crazy to happen in your day and that day was different. Luckily we happened to be at the right place at the right time”
